Print quality

Make it scannable, not “looks alright on my screen”.

300 DPI minimum: thermal is best, inkjet can smudge and fade. No scaling: print at Actual size (100%), never “Fit to page”. Contrast check: crisp black bars on a clean white label (no grey background).

Placement

Where you stick it matters as much as what it says.

Flat surfaces only: don’t wrap over edges, seams, or corners. Clear of tape glare: avoid covering the barcode with shiny tape. Cover old barcodes: fully block any UPC/EAN that isn’t meant to be scanned.
